So I have a BW-16D1HT that had the 1.01 firmware on it, have had the drive for 2+ years. I noticed that for a long time with MakeMKV that if I rebooted the computer after it was installed it would give an error saying no drive found. To get it to work again I would have to uninstall/reinstall to resolve the issue. I recently noticed that even if it shows the message that I was still able to use the program by telling it to open file.

I recently tried updating the firmware and installed latest version from ASUS 3.03 after doing this and uninstalling and reinstalling MakeMKV it detected the drive but didn't detect a dvd that was previously used, also happens after going back to 3.00 from one of the links found. just wanted to see if anyone had noticed this issue before, is there a link to the old 1.01 version of the firmware? Thanks
Yeah well you didn’t read before you went off to do something like that and bricked your drive. Read this:

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=17834

The same applies to you. In short, you improperly flashed an old drive with newer INCOMPATIBLE firmware.

Prior to flashing:

You are to always backup your old firmware or at least have a copy of the bin from the manufacturer ready.

You are to backup your old calibration data.

If you did none of that with that older drive then you may be closer to SOL then anything else with that drive now. Better off buying a new drive.

Around here I have only seen the newer firmware for the newer drives being shared (version 3.00+). You’ll most likely need to do some serious googling now if you want to find 3+ year old firmware for that drive.

Good luck.

Hey,

I have a question regarding the FW. Is it still possible to buy a new
w recorder (for example at amazon) with the the "right" firmware?

Yes, but at this point in the game it's a game of chance. There are still some in the wild, but most manufacturers/vendors are now selling patched up drives.

You'll have better luck here:

I believe you absolutely, but I'm from germany. So sending the Drive might be quite expensive.
May be it's better to flash the drive by my own? No clue. Is it difficult? What does I have to do?

Just got a Asus BW-16D1HT with 3.03 firmware and managed to downgrade to 3.01. I didn't see 3.02 in the clean firmware's file and am wondering if I should bother upgrading to it. What is the difference between 3.01 and 3.02?

Probably easiest to consult ASUS F/W release notes?

ASUS support site... usually provided with the actual F/W downloads.

It only shows the newest version and a very old version with no change log. BTW I found this site which has a new tool, and according to google translate can unbrick?

Hmm... engineering releases ain't what they used to be. Even F/W archive sites don't offer 'em:

Possibly due to nature of these 'friendly' drives?

You're right, we're far and away from transparency. They didn't even go for clever verbage, choosing straight censorship instead.

Can anyone else vouch for the FW 3.02 blocking certain discs that 3.01 will support?
