The bin file does not work that way. Drive makes strange sounds until MakeMKV writes that.

i think that that is just a dirty disk error does the drive now recognize the uhd disks? or can it now read no disks?

After struggling with my very old (12+ years) PC to get it into non AHCI and get DosFlash to read the drive in the Windows 7 USB stick I now have a dump of my drive. My PC doesn't have a setting to labelled IDE or ACHI I actually had to enable Auto Detect / Raid, I vaguely remember having to change this to RAID when I put a SSD drive in my PC about 8 years ago to enable AHCI. Also couldn't read the drive in the Win 7 environment until I connected the drive to SATA port 0.

I have looked at the HEX editing and that has just totally gone over my head. Can any one help merge this with a working firmware for UHD ripping that I can then flash my drive with please?

If you use the programs from the windows method, everything is automatic. It will automatically merge the firmwares. You just need to select the clean firmware and original firmware to combine. But the program does the work of combining. Then you just use the same program that was used to pull the stock for ware to flash the combined firmware.

I followed Teddy's instructions with his programs just like I did back in April. And they still worked great.

Yep it all worked in the end, more of a case of me not reading all the options properly.

I did a couple last night and your right, what I actually want to do is rip the UHD of Your Name and add the two additional soundtrack options from my UK Blu which has a English Track and a English track with Japanese songs. I tried it last night and the A/V sync was quite a lot out so lots of investigation work to be done there.

One final question I take it Windows updates won't update the firmware of the BW-16D1HT? Just want to make sure there is nothing I need to do to stop the firmware being updated automatically.

Another member informed me this drive noise is due to the 2-minute lock thing and its totally nomal. I dont like it either but I've noticed that I only experience it when makemkv opens. Actually what its trying to do with the disk isnt how you run the program. What you need to do is click the stop type button when the program opens and it will give the errors, then you must go into the File->Open from disk (or something other) context menu. Then you are good to go!
