Success

I had a LG WH16NS40 w/ a svc code of NS50 w/ a November 2017 manufacture date and 1.03 firmware

I followed the instructions dumping the firmware using the DOS method
I sent my dump to TeddyRaspin. And then was able to downgrade to 1.02 using a firmware he sent me, along with the "Flashing the firmware using the DOSFLASH modified method"

Has there been any further word on this? I'd love to wait for this solution rather than sell my LG external drive with bad firmware and take a chance on buying another drive.

Hi guys, i hope to be in the "right" topic.
I have an ASUS BW-16D1H-U PRO, that should be the USB version of the BW-16D1HT.
I just upgraded the firmware to the new one, they called it FW A203, the stock one was the A201 (December 2016 manufactured).
Unfortunately there is no other FW to download from the Asus support site.
Can someone help me to find the flash tool with the A201 FW?
Thank you

Unless something has changed in the last 90 days, the BW-16D1H-U series do NOT use the same drives as the SATA BW16s, and they are not BD-XL capable.

Hi you all,
Just got a LG BH16NS40 (Oct 2015) SVC Code NS40

Has anyone been successful at flashing the NS50 firmware onto this NS40 device - and if so what's best way to do this?

Thanks!!

Does anyone happen to have a firmware file for a WH16NS40 with SVC tag of NS40? I made the mistake of trying to flash to the ASUS 3.02 firmware with this drive before I read about the SVC tag differences, and now the drive doesn't load any discs at all.

I don't think there is a way to do this successfully. I tried multiple times, and ended up bricking my drive (tray would open/close, but would not read any discs, even standard blu-rays or DVDs). I had to flash it back to v1.00 that I found for the NS40 tag using DOSFlash, then re-upgraded using the official LG flasher to get it working normally again.

Report:

1. Asus BW-16D1HT purchased last week from Amazon
came with FW 3.00
Rips UHD perfectly, albeit slowly (about 3-4x). No failures yet on about 20 discs.

2. LG WH16NS40 svc code NS50 purchased this week from Amazon
came with FW 1.03
does NOT recognize UHD discs

Questions:

1. I am planning on downgrading the LG to 1.02; or should I cross flash to Asus 3.02?

2. Would I get any better read performance if I update the Asus to FW 3.02?

Thanks in advance.

So I'm hoping to do something with my WH16NS60 drive. Are these directions still my only option?

Thank you,

Alex

Firmware Downgrade On a Mac?

Post by davidahn »

This is AMAZING, but has anyone successfully done this on a Mac? I'm thinking of trying:

1. USB FreeDOS stick
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ye ... ng.238190/ or https://honeypot.net/making-dos-usb-images-on-a-mac/
https://honeypot.net/making-dos-usb-images-on-a-mac/

2. If worse comes to worst, install a VirtualBox and install Windows on it.

Anyone?

Same question from me. I've bought an ASUS BW-16D1HT and one of these enclosures.

I just got the OWC case myself; VERY few ODD case options these days, as everyone's gone to thumb drives and those slim drives.

What's your firmware version? Mine's 3.00 and works great. You just have to download the hashed keys and put them in your MakeMKV folder (the path is in your MakeMKV settings). My problem's with my LG drive.

Enclosure hasn't arrived yet so I don't know.

Manufacture date is September 2017.
