Darkwater - make sure that your drive is plugged into the one of the first 2 SATA ports. I had this same problem at first. It worked perfectly after that.

If they are like me they don't read all the way to the bottom of the original post and assume it's a step that needs to be done.

Just wanted to mention that this method is still working perfectly, and I was able to flash two BW-16D1HT drives from 3.03 to 3.01. Both are reading UHD discs without issues.

As a small note, if you have an older PC laying about, take a look in BIOS to see if it only allows IDE. This was the case for an older Win 7 PC I had laying about, and I was able to read and write the drives without needing to make any changes to BIOS.

Is there any of you folks from Germany whom I could send my BW-16D1HT to and would be so kind to downgrade the firmware for me?
My motherboard is AM4 based and offers no IDE mode...

I have a new Asus 16D1HT

SCSI\CdRomASUS____BW-16D1HT_______3.03

1) What is the target firmware for UHD friendly reads? FW 3.0, 3.1, or 3.2?
2) Is DOSFLASH32_BH16NS40.exe a tool for Asus drives also?
3) Does the Win7-PE include the calibration data in one step - as well as to fix the "Drive Signature DV value" or "Bus Encryption"?

1) 3.01 or 3.02 modded fw make your unit to be UHD friendly.

2) Yes, it supports any MediaTek MT1939/MT1959 chipset (mainly LG, ASUS).

3) Win7-PE, as the name suggests, is a Windows 7 Portable Edition, which is needed to properly execute DOSFLASH32.

If you carefully read my own guide, you'll find any answers for yourself.

Just signed up to thank the help to have a brand new UHD-friendly drive. Firstly, to TeddyRaspin, and all contributors as well.

My case:
- MoBo: Asus Gryphon Z-87; 2013; BIOS lets IDE mode, enable CSM (though boot override can be made also)
- Asus BW-16D1HT bought at Amazon Spain a few days ago
- FW: 3.03; as expected, all discs playable but UHD

Steps followed for Windows variation. Now with a 3.02 "combined" fw.

UHD tested successfully.

Thanks.

3.01 and 3.00 work as well.
As far as I can tell there’s no difference between 3.01 and 3.02. at least speed wise.

And for that matter the Asus firmware run on the lg drives is producing the same results as it does on the Asus labelled boxes.

It makes sense but it’s still blowing my mind.

Thanks for the confirmation. Though PE stands for preboot environment (it replaced sysprep for customizing Win7 images for deployment).

Being a new drive w 3.03, and NO UHD read support. can someone confirm the windows 7 option will complete my objective of a UHD friendly with this 3.02 firmware ?
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=16885&start=75#p59568.

[I'll use the linked clean firmware with BH16NS40_EEPROM_Data_Mover.exe with my 3.03 dump to get my drive "OEM" as calibrated, "Drive Signature DV value", "Bus Encryption", etc. ready?]

Forgive me, but I want to be 100% certain before I move forward. [looks so, but Im seeing conflicting info on the target firmware]

Everything teddy says is Gospel I’ve used the win 7 pe stick to crossflash over 50 units in the last two weeks and have 26 more sitting here.
