Buying LG WH16NS60 in the UK

Post by Dave77 »

Only Amazon seems to stock the LG WH16NS60 in the UK, and that is through a 3rd party seller. I can ship from the US via ebay saving a bit.

It's making me think the part number may be different over here, anyone know?

There is no evidence/reason to think that it may be a different "part number". There is only one "WH16NS60" globally "manufactured" by LG as shown in their very own webpage and quick Google search.

Prices/availability can vary for various reasons just like any other product depending on who's selling and where in the world.

Listing drives on eBay or Amazon as 4K UHD Friendly is very dumb and will lead to nothing good I guarantee it.

Holy Cow! I followed the links provided by st4evr just to see the price difference between US & UK sellers and what a difference there is.

The lg.com link took me to a US Amazon.com seller and with shipping and taxes the price is £119.98. The google.com search finds drives sold in the UK priced at £225. What a markup.

A review of the US drive says the firmware version is 1.01 so needs flashing but still it's a hell of a lot cheaper than getting it in the UK. How can this be?

I'm still on the fence as to whether I'm ready for the expense of upgrading my AV setup from HD to 4K, will need two new TVs and ATV 4Ks.

Mike has said that all Drives with newer firmware will be supported soon so do I order one from the US now or wait to see how things work with all firmware support from MKV first?

Decisions decisions.

Get it, spend the 3 minutes it takes to downgrade it to 1.00, and be happy with a supported drive. LOL :)

SamuriHL,

I would but I use Mac so AFAIK it can't flash the firmware. Although would it work with LibreDrive?

jonghotti,

How do I get in touch with you to discuss ordering one?

In theory it could be done in a VM or even from a WinPE boot media. I'm talking about the patched flasher not dosflash as that method isn't necessary.
