Cross-Flash LG NS50\55\58 Drive to WH16NS60

Post by MartyMcNuts »

@Billycar11,

I know that the WH16NS60 has a new crypto chip but I'm not sure what difference this actually makes.

Besides the sleep bug, is there any benefit of cross-flashing (upgrading?) a NS50\55\58 drive to a NS60? Would it then perform the same as a WH16NS60 UHD drive?

I am considering cross-flashing one of my BH16NS55's to WH16NS60 (fw 1.00) since it is now compatible with MakeMKV and just wanted to know if it is worth doing.

Thanks
Cheers :D

im not sure either all seems to work fine with the drive with this firmware but the real question is how will they act when given an aacs 2.0 key by an official program or if aacs 2.0 is cracked. i have done it for mine personal drive with the unlocked flasher and for a friend and things have been fine for months we both use it to play back UHD blurays regular blurays and dvds fine.

the only other benefit i think this helps with is harsh seeking on uhd disks.

its probably only worth it if you use your dive to playback disks directly and not rip them.

i will eventually try one of these crossflashed drives with an official program that does aacs 2.0 decryption my computer meets the requirements i just need to stop using my 1070Ti and use my 9700K's iGPU i will report back after i try that.

That would be a VERY useful test if you can get around to it soon. I'm quite curious about that myself.

@Billycar11,

Yeah, my PC meets the UHD requirements. I'd just have to stop using my GTX1060 and use the 8700's iGPU. What official software besides PowerDVD is there?

That's it. Just PowerDVD for UHD support.

Thanks @SamuriHL.

It will be interesting to see what result Billy comes back with after his little test.

I agree. My 3770k isn't quite up to the challenge I'm afraid. LMAO If it works with the cross-flashed firmware that could prove interesting. I've got an ASUS 3.02 (officially UPGRADED with the ASUS flash before they broke everything LOL) drive that could be cross-flashed if it works. Just a neat idea.

well i didn't really think it would work but i was still really disappointed when it didn't :cry:
it is enough to fool the uhd adviser Image
and power dvd to an extent but it just fails once it trys to play the movie with this errorImage
so yeah it no work oh well
but the drive didnt do anything really stupid or anything and works fine for regular bds with an official player it just doesn't know what to do with aacs 2.0 keys and the program errors out so if and when aacs 2.0 is cracked and volume keys are no longer updated because it is so tedious, a crossflashed drive to WH16NS60 is not going to solve the problem.

Good to know. That is much appreciated info. Makes me glad I got the NS60 just to have it. Now to update the rest of the machine.
