I have the same problem as SmoothRunnings. I have a brand new WH16NS40 (DOM: August 19) with 1.04 firmware. Before I do anything I wanted to confirm I need to:

1. Cross flash either BH16NS55_1.04_MK or ASUS_BW-16D1HT_3.10_MK using the ASUS flasher
2. Flash the DE_flash_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_WH16NS40_1.02_NS50.bin using the old flasher
3. Flash the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00600-211711211653.bin from the mk-firmware file

Is this correct or will I end up bricking my new drive? I also can't use dosflash because I don't have access to a PC with an IDE compatible bios so if I mess something up its messed up for good.
1. Use the ASUS flasher to flash NS55 1.04 MK.
2. Flash whatever firmware you like. Just continue to use the ASUS flasher as that is what you are already using. (Your step 2 is not needed).

DOSFLASH method is not used anymore as we now have the windows flashers.

Cheers

Okay, One final question, Should I crossflash to the WH16NS60 firmware to prevent the sleep bug or will that break anything on my drive? I also plan to use my drive to burn m-disc's and I read somewhere that some firmware's can break burning. Should I just stick to the WH16NS40 firmware?

Any LG firmware should work fine when burning. The issue is generally when using ASUS firmware on LG drives.

Yes, I would recommend NS60 1.00 firmware. The drive will read UHD faster and there is no sleep bug. I have NS60 1.00 firmware on one of my BH16NS55's and have burnt a few CD's as a test. They worked just fine. I assume M-Disc will also work. I guess you will know once you try one!

Cheers

Chaps - what's the latest recommendation for new Asus 16D1HT drives, to use the ASUS ODD FW 3.02 Updater for BW-16D1HT (Patched)? Or is there now a preferred procedure?

So is the best bang-for-buck approach right now to buy a WH14NS40 and crossflash it to WH16NS60 1.02MK using the "BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched" flasher? Are there any intermediate steps that need to be taken? Are there any downsides to the crossflash, like breaking CD/DVD/BD reading or writing?

. . .

What we would need:
A patched official MTK flasher. Can be downloaded from https://forum.cdrinfo.pl/f29/crossflash ... s58-96313/ This flasher operates using drive self-update mode.
Just FYI in case no one already mentioned this, but the link provided above "forum.cdrinfo.pl . . . " contains a link: "http://www84.zippyshare.com/v/7MsNUYNo/file.html", which the post states contains a download link for the flasher, some firmware versions, etc.

That site (www84.zippyshare.com . . ) will download a Trojan. Specifically, that site contains the trojan "Application.DealAlpha.2.Gen" So, don't use that Zippyshare link. Instead, use the Google Drive link provided in the description of the YouTube how to video.

Brand new Asus BW-16D1HT, firmware 3.10. Internally mounted via SATA cable. Windows 10. I'm using a confirmed byte-modified 3.02 bin file "ASUS_BW-16D1HT_3.02_OFFICIAL_(BYTE_PATCHED).bin". Using Asus flasher "ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer_(Modified).exe" gives Updating Failure #4. Using the LG flasher "BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe" gives Write DRAM NG 05/26/03. The drive works currently with regular Blu-ray disks.

Just wondering what the successful people are doing that I'm not (heh, story of my life). Thanks.

Well, they would read as the answer has been given quite a few times. :) But anyway, flash MK 3.10 first. That is NOT the same thing as what's on your drive now which is the official 3.10 and can't be downgraded. MK 3.10 will allow you to flash whatever you want.
