So I bought my WH16NS40 on a whim after reading that it would do UHD disc and was disapponted to find that it came with the 1.03 from the factory

According to the LG flasher I have SVC code NS50

Which I understand to mean that I'm good to go.

I snagged the .zip and after a but of duh-huh I noticed the folder icon and got it to pick the correct firmware.

Before I pull the trigger, am I right in thinking I'm not going to make a $60 brick?

@KiltedShane,

Go for it. I see you've chosen a DE (downgrade enabled) firmware from Billy. That's all you need to do. The flashing will take a minute and then tell you to reboot. (I didn't reboot when I flashed one of my drives and it downgraded fine. I'm using it right now.)

yeah all you do is click the folder and choose the fw for your drive, what you have now will work but why not chose the wh16ns40 ns50 1.02 your exact drive model you have bh16ns40/50 selected cant see last number.
and as mike said it is very hard to brick a drive this way it will leave the drive in a recovery state that you can reflash it

this is why im going to make a video it just reassures people it works and clears up little things they are unsure about.

hey peeps

right my asus BW 16D1HT drive and icybox arrived this morning
im a little confused but hopefully all went well, i had downloaded the patched updater and all the bins! from this thread

so i loaded the updater, it stated the drive was on f/w 3.03, so i thought from here when i clicked start it would ask for the location of the bin file for 3.02 but instead it just updated!

anyway far enough, so I restarted makemkv and sure enough it reported the drive is now 3.02 YAY ( i think)

so thought i would just go with the flow, as have used makemkv for many years ripping my 3D films, and loaded Dunkirk 4K disc and went thru what i normally do with the mkv's! so currently its ripping 50GB approx to my hard drive

is this right, was i supposed to do anything before hand, seemed to remember reading something about hash keys!!

Hashed keys are not needed with 1.12.3+ they are automatically downloaded

@MaDMaX @Captain Ron,

As @SamuriHL said, I have patched the official ASUS 3.02 Updater (see last post of page 1) so that is all that you need to downgrade a BW-16D1HT from 3.03 to 3.02, even via USB.

This makes it a hell of a lot easier!!!
Thank you, just to confirm, and reading above other replies, this is a patched version (0xDE at 0x25A4EE) of the 3.02 UHD friendly Official firmware updater? So 3.02 has two flavors, one UHD friendly and one not ... Some Amazon comments mention that 3.02 is UHD unfriendly but that is partially incorrect.

that offset is wrong i have no idea where you got that from it supposed to be 0x1ec056.
martys firmware is edited right and is the friendly version why would we put anything else up.

Hi, offset 0x25A4EE is that in the firmware updater .exe file not the offset in the firmware file, sorry for the confusion.
I never doubted the validity of the "friendliness" of the 3.02 posted here, just wanted confirmation. Thank you.

I couldn’t resist buying two more WH16NS60’S before they close this loophole.

Hello! Successfully downgraded a BW-16D1HT (3.0.3d) with the firmware from MartyMcNuts at the bottom of the first page via USB. I did however run into an issue I wanted to call out in case it helps someone else.

-The Vantec CB-ST00U3 USB 3.0 Optical Storage adapter DOES NOT work for flashing the drive, it will either error out or stall out at 0% (depending on which flasher you use). This is a caseless adapter, plugs into the back of the drive and provides a USB 3 interface. The adapter can read/rip discs fine, just can't flash.

I purchased the Vantec NST-536S3-BK optical enclosure after the above adapter didn't work, this enclosure worked perfectly over USB. Hope this helps!

The firmware date is interesting ... 2115 ... Firmware from the Future (I wish there was a graphical reverb)

So what is next, Sensei?
