Cool.

EDIT: Data sent to Mike.
You meant you did extracted BU10? then, would you give me that too? Thanks in advance. I will update the results.

I sent Mike some data that'll help him determine if the FW can be extracted. I haven't heard back, unfortunately. I'd imagine his plate's pretty full right now. :( Oh well. Good things come to those who wait.

Question: Does anybody know which tool can be used to remove keys and laser data from FW dumps? The good news is that Mike was able to extract the FW from my BU10 drive, and will hopefully post appropriate materials very soon for downgrading. :) In the meantime, just in case something goes wrong, I'd like to extract the appropriate image from my dump. I just don't know how to do so.

(By the way, it looks like it is true that the PU3 really is a rebadged BU40N drive. I'm sure there are differences here and there in the FW and the enclosure but the guts are the BU40N.)

Thanks.

Good news: I just confirmed that my extracted FW works! I just got a new BRUHD-PU3 with BU11 pre-installed. I made a "DE" version of BU10. The downgrade worked fine with the modded Asus flasher posted on the first page. The "DE" version should be posted soon (and I suppose Mike will post an "MK" version at some point), but if it gets held up, I can do it myself. In the meantime, I assume you can also use DE/MK versions of the BR40N FW, as BU10 has references to BR40N inside it. No guarantees but I'll play around later and report back.

So the buffalo drives with the BU40N in it can simply be flashed with BU40N 1.00 and they'll come back saying Buffalo xxxxx BU10.
I'm wondering about the Buffalo BRXL-16U3 big external drive that contains a BH16NS58 in it with revision 1.01. Is there a 1.00 around for the BH16NS58? Still need to figure out how to remove this case unless you guys are going to tell me we can flash over USB now :)

no for the Buffalo BRUHD-PU3 to get BU10 you flash the DE_flash_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_BU10.bin from my firmware pack here https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 873#p70284
im not sure about the Buffalo BRXL-16U3i dont have a 1.00 for it.
we can flash over usb but the case needs to support it some do not support flashing. im making a list of flashing friendly cases i will share it with you and marty to add to it

I just used the tried and true LG BU40N_1.00.bin and got the same results but this was with the Buffalo BRXL-PT6U2VB slim drive so ymmv.

Hi, so your crossflash enabled UHD-Blu-ray disc reading on the BRXL-PT6U2VB?

@Billycar11
Concerning your two BU40N DE firmwares - what MK FW / drive type would they mirror (N, R or U)?

im not 100% sure but if you have a BRUHD-PU3 i think it is safe to flash. it worked on the N version of the BU40N also probably the only way to tell is for someone to open the BRUHD-PU3

I wasn't thinking of it as a cross flash, just a roll back of the firmware on a BU40N that just happened to arrive in a Buffalo case :)
I'm glad though it didn't change the model of the reported drive and I like those little Buffalo cases.

Having a Buffalo BRXL-PT6U2VB, I also suspect that it would be rather safe to flash a BU40N FW - but the more important question IMHO is whether it would be worth doing it. To get an answer to that, I'd have to rephrase my question to jonghotti.

Does your BRXL-PT6U2VB read UHD discs now?
If so, would you mind posting a screenshot of MakeMKV showing that ability?

If you currently don't read UHD and you'd like to, yes it's worth doing.
Yes it does, and no I would't but I shipped those units off days ago.
I have more coming though. My number is posted all over the place feel free to call me sometime we'll sort this out quickly.
