Never touched it so it is whatever the default is.
Mine is default on the win10 as well.

Now totally dumb question but I wanna ascertain if maybe I've got a faulty unit
can your 1.04 ns55's read a bluray movie out of the box, cause mine doesn't wanna seem to load one (not rip just read)

A standard Blu-Ray, yes, no problem at all.

Yeah just a regular bluray, tried 2 or 3 just to be sure.

Maybe you should consider returning your drive if it can’t even read a standard blu-ray out of the box??

I would concur with that thought. Does not sound like the drive is ok.

I recently suffered a catastrophic hardware loss due to SOMETHING. (new mobo, new 5tb hdd, new psu, new blu-ray drive), and got a WH16NS40 (not sure whether it's a NS40 or NS50 for the generation), but it came from MicroCenter and has the 1.04 firmware on it as well.

I tried the downgrade firmware ensuring 0x1CE056 was in DE state and not FF state, and it didn't want to downgrade to 1.00 or 1.02, using the patched flasher. The 1.02-mk files to enable libredrive bare minimum also didn't work. Apparently this is a blocked for now issue.
HW:
WH16NS40 on a SATA (AHCI) cable,
ASROCK X570 Phantom Gaming 4 Mobo
Windows 10 etc...

You cannot downgrade from 1.04 directly. You must cross-flash to ASUS 3.10-mk then you can flash whatever firmware you like.

Like MartyMcNuts said. I had the 1.04 onto my one and it did read no 4k UHD at all.
It felt a bit weird but it really works. Get the Asus flasher mentioned in the posts, then put the Asus 3.10 on (in the Asus folders is only a single one with a 3.10 in the file name just go through the folders to find it) and after that put the 1.03MK on and it works.
If you like you can restart your computer but not necessary.

I've got an LG WH16NS40 with fw 1.04 and am having NO luck downgrading. Where can I get this Asus flasher? I did not see a link in the posts.
