Is this guide still relevant in 2020? I just got this drive and I'm going to be flashing it soon. I have 1.02 firmware on this new drive.
I'm not entirely sure, I followed the guide to flashing the drive and am still not able to rip UHD discs. Blu Rays work fine, though.
what happens on your UHD discs?
I receive the following error

MakeMKV v1.15.0 win(x64-release) started
Error 'OS error - This device does not exist' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS60 1.02' at offset '33364506624'

Hi, thank you everyone for this topic. It has mostly made this clear for even a not so tech person like me to understand all of this.

I just want to double check on the current state of this procedure. My WH16NS60 drive was manufactured 12/27/2019 with the 1.02 firmware. MakeMKV says it is a 1.02d - "Optical drive "BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS60 1.02d" opened in OS access mode."

Is the patched 1.02 firmware linked to on page 1 "mk-firmware-pack-20191013" still the current firmware to use? All I plan on using this drive for is ripping BD/UHD in MakeMKV on MacOS

Thank you very much for this guide! Been looking for a workaround because I cannot use Intel SGX for a while now (have an AMD processor).

One thing of note and not sure if anyone else has had this come up. I followed the steps and when I flashed 1.02, it said it failed and that my drive was going into emergency mode. As soon as I attempted to open the flash utility again, computer immediately restarted. Uh oh. Did it again, same error, computer reset again. Decided to see if the drive was at least visible to MakeMKV and sure enough, it shows Libre enabled and everything good to go. Put in Dr Sleep UHD Blu Ray and it is currently ripping it now with no issues. Not sure why the error popped up or why my computer said heck no to trying to open the flash utility after the error code but it working.

Made an account just to post this after finding your thread:

Thank you! This worked like a charm. Bought a UHD drive so I could use the 4K footage for fanedits, but didn't realize there'd be extra steps. All the options seemed far too complicated or far too expensive, but this was all too easy! Took a few minutes, tops. Ripping The Rise of Skywalker now!

I'm glad new folks continue to enjoy my guide.

Yes this guide is still up-to-date as of June 2020. I just updated the link to the new firmware pack (https://www.makemkv.com/download/mk-fir ... 200415.zip) but it still contains the same patched 1.02 firmware file for the drive I recommend. So nothing really changed.

Thanks - worked like a charm to flash to 1.02MK with a WH16NS60 mfd March 2020 with ROM ver 1.02.

I was surprised it didn't have the new 1.03 FW given the recent mfg date, but I guess I lucked out!

Hello All, just joined.
Got lucky and ordered the WH16NS60 in January from Amazon.
Never opened the box.
Opened the box yesterday, followed the instructions, and perfect, it's Enabled.

Easiest instructions ever.

Thank you very much.
😊

By "lucky" I mean I purchased from Amazon not knowing about the firmware issue.
I received 1.0.2.

Just flashed my new drive using this guide and it worked great.

One ting that made me sweat a bit! My machine could not identify the drive afterwards - not even after a reboot. Moving it to a different USB port made Windows re-identify the drive and it worked again!

Ripping my first UHD movie as I type... :-)

Thanks!

So, I recently received a new NS60, and it has Rom version 1.03 on it. Attempting to flash to MK firmware returns errors. Am I totally out of luck?

EDIT: After some forum searches, I've gotten up to speed, more or less, on sdftool in 1.15.2. I've gone ahead and used the commands for rawflash full, and everything seems to go okay - except when I startup MakeMKV, it's still reporting the stock firmware. I feel like I'm missing something really easy here. I've also tried this with makemkvcon and gotten the same result - new firmware appears to upload successfully, but I'm still on stock 1.03.

Hello, I recently purchased a NS60, looks like it was made end of 2019 with firmware 1.02
Is the firmware 1.02mk allow for UHD rip feature? Also, what is Sleep Bug? Does that require a previous firmware?

Thanks

I followed the step-by-step instructions, started with LG WH16NS60 v1.02, I updated with file "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03-NM00600-212005081010.bin"
Now my Drive says Libra Drive: Enabled but the version is 1.03 ( attached a screen shot)
I am where or hos do I get file for version 1.02mk to flash?
Thank You for any help.

Edit:
Seems that I may have used the 1.03 version firmware, for WH16NS60 the 1.03 is encrypted? Even if it is the MK version?
What is the advantage of version 1.00 or 1.02 versions?

Much Appreciated
