Drive works perfectly, I can rip single and dual layer regular blu ray's just fine at 25MB/s 6.2x.

So I guess the next option would be taking the drive apart and trying to get data off the SPI bus, although judging by the security so far that is likely to be a dead end.
before doing that and probably getting nowhere, if you can try another pc, if not buy a usb adapter that's flashing friendly they are like $15 https://amazon.com/gp/product/B06WWLCYC ... OXQZ&psc=1
maybe the flashers dont like something about your sata chipset or maybe this is a new 3.11 that has even more downgrade checks

So far I have tried a HP Compaq 6300 SFF with a Q75 Express chipset as well as a Gigabyte GA-B85-D3H.
The other systems I have left to try is a P5Q-PRO P45 C2D, HP DL380 G3 SCSI server and a P8-Z77-V LK which I was successful able to crossflash a Fujitsu 9211-8i SAS controller into IT/HBA mode for freenas.

I'll give those a try next. The USB adapter would be nice to have to plug hard drives in if it ends up not working anyway.

If you already tryed multiple PC's I would say it's the drive either new fw that blocks this again or the firmware writing some how being messed up. You can ask the developer if he wants a dump of your fw I did one with him the other day takes about an hour

Latest we have is LG 1.04 MK and Asus 3.10 MK. It seems the OP's drive has newer firmware than those. I reckon the downgrade check on these drives just looks if firmware.bin >= current installed.

Given that DOSFlash does not work, do you know the tool that is used? Or is it super secret  (FreeDOS?) I could do a Teamviewer session if anyone want to schedule a time to help me.

I have the same problem, and it looks like it doesn't depend on the firmware version.

12D2HT, manufactured in January 2019, original firmware version 3.01. Using the patched ASUS flasher I was able to install the 12D2HT-3.01MK, but that's it: crossflashing to any other firmware (tried 16D1HT-3.10MK & WH16NS60-1.02MK) doesn't work neither with the ASUS (error #5) nor LG (checksum error) patched flashers. I can still reflash the 12D2HT-3.01MK, though.
