Drive making funny noises

Post by Daskew78 »

Hi,

I've got the WH14NS40 in an external Icy Boy enclosure.

When it's ripping everything is fine. But if the drive has a disk in it and i'm not doing anything with it, it makes like a grinding noise trying to read the disk.

The only way to stop it is to eject the disk and close it again. Windows reads it fine again and I can rip from the drive. But do nothing for a few minutes and it goes back to square one and keeps trying to read disk making a funny noise.

Is this normal because it's been flashed?
Regards

This, my friend, is the infamous 'sleep bug'. Until a FW fix arrives, DON'T leave discs in an idle drive. Or try earplugs. :D The former is advised.

Ahh a bug... is it actually doing the drive or disk any harm?

Dunno. Haven't read any 'horror stories' attributable (YMMV) to it. @jonghotti , @MartyMcNuts , @Billycar11 traffic in volumes of these affected drives. Gentlemen?

Almost all drives I sell now have the sleepbug fix. I haven't seen any harm from it but it does not sound good and it is annoying to have to eject the disk to read it again

Okay this is where I went massively wrong in my other topic and needed your help to recover the drive so I'd like to check first before I do it if that is okay?

I have the I have the "LG WH14NS40, UHD Friendly Internal 5.25" drive in an Icy Box External Enclosure. Am I reading the guide correct in that I should flash it with the firmware for the "LG WH16NS60, UHD Official Internal 5.25" drive? If so, where do I get that official firmware from and which version do I need?

The guide also points out the following:

"1. Make sure your Drive was built after 2015"
How can I check this?

"2. Drive Platform MT1959<Most important"
I am not sure what this is asking or telling me?

"3. SVC NS50+ LG only"
Again, I am not sure what this is asking or telling me?

Once I have all the tools, I just flash it with a WinPE disk?

Thanks.
Regards

1. It's on drive label
2. In makemkv drive info
3. Drive label again

I want to fix it but you're not answering my questions mate...

I've no idea which firmware to flash the drive and if I should use the MK firmware or not?

Also the firmware in the video link to download will not download. There's a network error each time I try. I've tried 20x times so I cannot get any of the firmwares.

Actually it was my virus protection not allowing the download, I have it now.

If you can just confirm the correct firmware to flash I can do it.

Thanks.
