ASUS BW-16D1HT FW questions

Post by AsusQuery »

Just purchased this drive new. Came with 3.03 FW. Used the procedures/videos on this site to get it to 3.02 FW.

UHD extracts are performing swimmingly!

However, I've seen mention of 3.10 and 3.10-MK FW (and I have a copy of the latter via mk-firmware-pack-20191206). Are there any compelling reasons to upgrade or not upgrade? Pros/Cons of 3.02 versus 3.10 or 3.10MK? Is there a well-documented procedure for the upgrade?

(Note: I did do some searching before asking the question, but there are too many results to comb through in a reasonable timeframe.)

The 3.10 (MK) firmware rips faster than 3.02 and 3.03. However, if you have critical discs with read problems then the older ones perform better. I have one drive on 3.03 and another one on 3.10 for both reasons mentioned.

Thank you. I'm curious how much faster? 3.02 seems to get me upwards of 25-30M/s as it gets to the outer parts of the disk.

You can easily flash the versions back and forth and test yourself. Just a matter of seconds and a reboot after it.

Gotcha. Which patcher should be used, though?

BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe

or

ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer_(Modified).exe

In the youtube video, the first one was used to install a DE patch, then the second one to get to 3.02.

It's unclear which should be used to get to 3.10-MK.

Both should work with your drive. Sometimes the ASUS is needed for newer firmwares that don't allow downgrades. But since you are already on a MK firmware both should work.

Well...3-10MK seems a bit slower than the 3.02. Maybe it doesn't suffer from the sleep bug, though.

That's not my experience. Maybe with discs that read perfectly. My experience with critical discs is that the older firmwares stay longer at lower read speeds if there are any read errors compared to 3.10 and are therefore more successful to provide good copies while 3.10 tries to speed up again and then fails at some point when the retry limit is reached.

all asus firmware has the sleepbug you're chasing something that does not exist.
