Asus BW-16D1HT Failing?

Post by mr.pope »

Hello Everyone!
I've been a lurker here for many years. All the knowledge, skills, and effort you put into this forum is amazing.

I've had an Asus BW-161HT since almost the beginning of UHD ripping. I don't rip that many titles in 4K (30>), but mostly regular bluray.
Recently I've been unable to rip UHD, makemkv also lost the drive. I replaced the sata cable and moved it to another power cable. It seems to be working correctly now, but it will not finish a rip. I ripped a bluray last week and that worked. here are some of the errors I'm getting after the rip fails. I've cleaned the crap out of that disc, under a magnifier, to no avail. I put in another disc last night, and that also failed. I'm thinking the drive's time is up, but would like to know from the experts, and if there's something I can do.

thanks!

Are the offsets listed in the errors the same each time you try to rip it?

Have you tried increasing the read retry count in preferences? I think the default is 5 and I've seen people set it from 25 to even 99 and have success.

Thanks,
I'll give that a try. I bought a WH14NS40 and flashed it. That worked great. Good to know I can try a few more things before I junk it.

Try flashing 302 original (but hacked), then 301 and then 3.10MK.

Does this help?
