Help with re-flashing BP50NB40?

Post by Nillaz »

Hi everyone I have a BP50NB40-NB52 (build date 09/21) that I paid Billy to create an autoflash for. He was very timely and the drive now has the BP60NB10 1.00 firmware on it and it works as expected in makeMKV. However, I'm new to this and in my ignorance I didn't realize that this firmware isn't compatible with DVDFab, and I would really like to be able to use this as well as makeMKV.

Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but I've been reading through multiple threads here on the forum for the better part of the afternoon and my understanding is that this drive can work with both makeMKV and DVDFab if I reflash the drive with the BU40N 1.00 firmware. I downloaded SDFTool Flasher and Marty's firmware pack and followed the instructions but no matter what I do the drive will not reflash and is still on the BP60NB10 firmware.

Perhaps I'm missing something fundamental here, but if I'm understanding this correctly the proper steps are:

1. Enable "Include Boot Loader" and select "Write", then choose to flash the drive with BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK from the dropdown menu
2. Select "Recovery" and select the same BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware in the popup window, and then select the BU40N 1.00 firmware in the dropdown menu

When I do step 1 the progress bar appears to go through the proper steps. It shows a percentage completed indicator and takes about 15 seconds before telling me that the process was done successfully, though the recognized drive is still listed as a BP60NB10.

When I do step 2 the progress bar doesn't appear to go through the proper steps. It only takes about 3 seconds and says the process was done successfully but the drive is still on the BP60NB10 firmware.

If anyone can help me get this sorted I am not averse to compensating you for your time and effort. I don't want to start just trying random things that I don't fully understand and risk bricking the drive. I'm pretty bummed that I can't really get rolling with this so any help at all would be greatly appreciated! If there's any further info needed please don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks Billy! I'm still too new on the forum to send a PM. I sent you an email inquiring about this the other night, but I will send you another momentarily.

Sorry for the necro-bump. I am in the exact same scenario as OP; Flashed BP50NB40-NB52 1.03 -> NB50 1.03 -> BP60NB10 1.00 Hybrid FW. BP60NB10 is not compatible with redump so I need to flash to BU40N or NB50 1.00. Used SDFTool to try and recover to stock or the desired FW and the tool says it was done successfully but firmware remains on BP60NB10. Drive still works.

Billy can you also send me this flasher? Or someone can tell me the correct method to restore my original FW backup to start the downgrade process over, or how to flash from BP60NB10 to the desired FW?

Thanks
