Hi All,

New to the forum. I bought a Pioneer BDR-212V and successfully flashed its firmware down to a BDR-S12U Version 1.02 22/03/07.

TL;DR: Pioneer drive BDR-212V flashed down to BDR-S12U
SATA to USB 3 adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HQQNSZN?re ... tails&th=1
The PC operating system: Windows 10 Pro

Any ideas on how to get this to work?

The device doesn't show up in any way with Device Manager. It's powering on and off fine, with the external supply.

Long version, with background:

I purchased this SATA to USB 3 adapter off Amazon. My plan was to use the Pioneer drive with a small PC that doesn't have room to plug it directly into the motherboard, so I needed the adapter.

I didn't have any luck getting a computer to recognize the drive with the adapter, so I was able to disconnect a DVD player already there and plug the Pioneer drive directly into the motherboard of a larger desktop I was using to flash the drive. The drive was recognized and the flashing program worked successfully.

So then I was back to the smaller desktop PC and trying to get the drive to work with the adapter. I'll list some methods I've tried if needed. I've worked on this a few hours and done some googling, but I've still not made any progress.

Hello Billycar11, thanks for your response.

I have been reading your guides over the past few weeks before deciding to buy a drive. I've read "The Ultimate UHD Flashing Guide Updated 2023 viewtopic.php?p=74718#p74718, among some of your others.

I appreciate your guides and the work you do on the site/community.

Thanks, Manciple

I should have focused more on your selling guide at viewtopic.php?f=20&t=17831. I missed the Vantec CB ST00U3, which was also in your Ultimate Guide. At its price of ~$20, I wish I had just gone with that one. It was my mistake that I didn't check each one -- I mistook it for a pricier enclosure. Ah well, buy cheap and buy twice.

After looking again at your recommended enclosures, I went ahead and got the Vantec NexStar DX2.

This one works very good and can also be used for flashing drives:

Just an update/resolution:

Received the Vantec NexStar DX2 on the same day I ordered it (thanks Jeff Bezos). Windows is now recognizing the drive and it's working fine.

Glad I got the Pioneer drive instead of the LG, and same sentiment on this enclosure. The extra cost is worth it to protect the drive in case it needs to be moved.

Thanks to all those here with whom I've interacted, for steering me in the right direction. I'm sure I'll be back, browsing if not posting, on other topics.
