I did a Windows refresh install with same result. So, makemkv is the only thing installed. This is on Windows 10. Could it be a router issue? Do I need a port opened?

That makes no sense. Are you 100% sure you went into MakeMKV preferences and the Allow contacting web server for updates checkbox is checked?

What software other than WinPE do I need to upgrade to MK 3.03?
The ASUS windows flasher + firmware

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18933

and/or the MK firmware (see previous post from SamuriHL) if you want to stay on 3.03 firmware.
Fantastic. Tried it but the update failed on both the 3.01 & 3.02 bin file with the error: Updating failure #4. Re-read the boards & copied over Mikes' firmware update for the drive. Re-ran it & all ok.

I've been using this drive quite awhile and only just noticed the Libredrive stuff coming up lol. I came looking to learn about it and the unrestricted read which I understand isn't yet resolved. I'm currently running firmware 3.00 and see comments about custom firmware. Is there any real pressing need for me to move off of 3.0 to say 3.1 and patch it? So far most discs seem to be no issue although I did have issue with one that required a few attempts <shrug>. Just curious :)

I just got my Asus BW-16D1HT 3.03 today, installed it in my PC, used the new Flasher to update it to the 3.10 MK firmware (from the March 19 pack) and MakeMKV still does not show the Libredrive functionality in the info field:

Drive Information
OS device name: E:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1HT
Revision: 3.10
Serial number: [redacted]
Firmware date: 2119-01-04 10:14
Bus encryption flags: 1F

No disc inserted

Is there an additional step I missed? I have not yet inserted a UHD disk as I am planning to get my first ones after I get this to work!

You need to make sure that MakeMKV can download updates, or you have to download the latest SDF.bin manually.

open a bluray disk and then the sdf will download and libredrive will activate

Just put a blu ray or UHD in the drive. MakeMKV will then download the sdf and libredrive info should appear.

I had the exact same issue. The issue turned out to be a firewall rule on the router, once I was able to download the updates Libre worked right away and I was able to successfully rip a UHD. I also thought it was due to using an external USB 3.0 enclosure (it wasn't). I hooked the drive up to my eSata port (first time I found a real use for that port lol) and Libre mode didn't work that way either, the problem was definitely the need for the updates to download.

I used the old method from Spring 2018 to upgrade my Asus BW-16D1HT to be UHD friendly. I did two drives in Spring 2018 and one in Summer 2018.

All three drives have been rock solid with reading my UHD BD titles. I've ripped over 225 UHD BD titles with them so far.

Is there any reason for me to upgrade with this newer method to the newer firmware versions?
