I've been a MKV user for years. Also a Mac computer user. I'm more than open to buying a new external, or internal burner with a case....that I can use on my MAC to rip with. And, I'd like to rip my collection of 4K movies to my server. I'm just not sure if any of these will work? The Asus mentioned to work..does not show MAC compatible? There is an external one, BW-16D1X-U. It supports BDXL. And Mac computers. Maybe this would work? Anyone have an idea?

I am running a late 2014 Mac Mini on 10.13.6 High Sierra along with MakeMKV v1.14.3. I m using 3 differant models of BluRay drives all in OWC Mercury Pro USB 3.1 enclosures and they are working good for me, I have an ASUS BW-16D1HT, an LG WH16NS60, and an LG WH16NS40. They all work fine for me. I have also flashed them all to the latest versions of the MK firmware so they all show LibreDrive enabled.

Hope this helps.
Dave

That drive will not work libredrive does not equal UHD readability
Also unless you are familiar with virtual machines or boot camp your Mac can not flash the drives on macos pick from these drives all work on Mac if you get an external case or if you Mac has a 5.25 bay

My Recommended Drives are

1. LG WH16NS60 Fastest and no sleep bug and can playback UHD in official software if you meet requirements.
2. LG WH14NS40 SVC NS50 ONLY Best Value
3. Asus BW-16D1HT 2016+ to be safe, some 2015
4. WH16NS40 SVC NS50 ONLY
5. LG BU40N no sleep bug and can playback UHD in official software if you meet requirements.do not crossflash to a desktop drive

All of these Drives are great and the ones with the sleep bug can be fixed by flashing WH16NS60 firmware to them that also makes them as fast as the WH16NS60.

I pretty much only sell 2 drives now even though i offer them all because The WH14NS40 is such a great value and the WH16NS60 does everything you could ever want.

Also I do sell them pre flashed ready to go: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=17831

Billycar11 point out a major part that I left off. I updated the firmware on the dives in the USB enclosures but I connected them to a Windows 10 VM running on my NAS to do it. I apologize for that omission.

Just to make sure I'm understanding correctly, I can cross flash the LG WH14NS40 to LG WH16NS60 v1.00? Does that cause any problems?

Thanks for the help! My LG WH14NS40, crossflashed to WH16NS60 v1.00, works fine so far. I used Windows in a VM to run the flasher on a Mac, and the Downgrade Enabled Firmware V.2 from https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 873#p70284.
