Hey guys, MakeMKV tells me that my drive supports LibreDrive but it's not yet activated. Does that mean that there is a chance an update might remove the rip-lock sometime in the future? If so, are the chances good or rather bad it being an older drive? Is there anything I can do to help?

Cheers

Your drive might be a Samsung slim blu-ray drive if I’m not mistaken. For LibreDrive enabling, there’s no definite time frame. Probably 50-50 chance. If the drive was manufactured before 2015, it may not be possible for the drive to read and rip 4K UHD discs. Though there are members here offering UHD 4K Friendly drives for sale and they respond fast. You can check them out rather than waiting. https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634

I am not even interested in UHD capabilities, it's just the annoying rip-lock for normal Blu-rays. Everytime I want to make a backup to my NAS, I have to wait hours because it's ripping with 2.2x best-case. Some other discs even rip at 0.5x

So far, Mike has only made available MK firmware for ASUS and LG drives (and their clones). What I would suggest you do:

1. You would need either a copy of your drive firmware or a grab it from a download link if available. (If you are unable to obtain your firmware, Mike does have his own method that may work).
2. You should then contact "mike admin" and give him a copy of your firmware or let him use his method to extract it.
3. Hope, someday, he can create a MK version of your firmware that you can flash.

Hope that helps.

Yay, at least it's not type 1. :D Thanks for looking into this. :)
