Drive does not appear to see any other disks but it is brand new. Before flashing it said it was mt1959 and after flashing as well

was the drive tested before flashing?

No it was not, could be defective I suppose

I bought a BW-16D1X-U today and found out it can't read UHD disks
After reading through this thread, I could successfully flash it and just imported my first UHD disk successfully

I have the same bluray drive. I had purchased mine from 'zon on 06 July 2023.

Your post emboldened me to give the flash a try. Following your instructions exactly my Asus BW-16D1X-U on Windows10 desktop PC is now able to directly play/view 4k UHD Blu-Ray disks.
Also MakeMKV was able to copy the disk contents to a backup folder. The .mkv/movies were playable.

I've had my ASUS since the pandemic- purchasing it in 2020- and never had any issues reading or copying discs to mkv - until today. Granted, I haven't used the program in a while and was able to re-up with the beta key. But now I've tried both 4K and standard blurays and neither works.

Can someone help me? I've gone over earlier posts in the thread and read up on the UHD Flashing, but that seems to be Windows-based, and I'm on a Mac (my last to be sure).

Also, your ASUS is not properly flashed to be a LibreDrive. On the Mac, you can do the necessary flashing in a Terminal window. The Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide has instructions on how to do this. You will have to flash your drive to be able to rip 4K discs. It isn't strictly necessary to be able to rip most blu-rays, but earlier error message about SDF downloading is not helping you.

hi im new here, i just recently bought one of these drives a week ago and i just now flashed it to DE_ASUS_BC-12D2HT_3.11_MK but i read in this thread that HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03 is better to flash this drive with, my issue is that when i try to flash 1.03 sdf tool says it worked but makemkv still shows the asus 3.11 firmware. is there something im missing here or is it honestly that much better than the 3.11 firmware?

If you ever want to write a disc, leave it as is.

Also, for some reason this model has always been difficult to cross-flash. That's why I always recommend the firmware you are currently on.

Just sticking my head in here. I got the Asus BW-16D1X-U and flashed it with the SDFTool flasher using DE_ASUS_BW-16D1HT_3.10_MK and it works like a champ. Just loaded up the new Army of Darkness 4k and I'm good to go.
