I think we just have to wait.
In that case are there any other recommended slot drives? What Im planning would really benefit from a slot drive but I cant find any others on the market except for some bare slim SATA drives and im not sure if those would even work

I'd like to transition my LibreDrive status from Possible, not yet enabled to Enabled.

Running MakeMKV v1.17.4 on macOS Ventury 13.5.2:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XS07U
Revision: 1.03
Firmware date: 2023-01-06
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 655

LibreDrive Information

Status: Possible, not yet enabled

Drive platform: Pioneer RS8E21

Firmware version: ID05
My goal here, really, is just to remove the 2x speed limit for archiving my discs, and achieve the drive's 6x max speed as advertised. If LibreDrive isn't what I'm looking for to achieve that, I'd appreciate any advice or links.
hope this is helpful for this 3 month old post. other people with this question have been told to run the windows utility from pioneer jp site to enable the full speed setting

Hello, I am new to MakeMKV and accidentally bought one of the pioneer models with the new firmware that disables LibreDrive. Below is the drive information if that helps at all. Otherwise, I would appreciate any tips that can get LibreDrive enabled without buying a new disc drive.

Drive Information
OS device name: G:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD08U
Revision: 1.02
Firmware date: 2022-12-27
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 77

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS9331
Firmware version: ID05

Please let me know if any other information is needed and thank you to anyone for their help.

That drive cannot currently have libredrive enabled as the firmware is too new. Your choices are to keep it and wait possibly several months (or even years) or return it if possible and get another drive. If you are after a Pioneer, your best bet is to get one from a seller on this forum.

Hi there,

I unwittingly updated the firmware in my Pioneer BDR-S12UHT to V1.05 and its now its paperweight in regards of using it with MakeMKV.

Does anyone know of a way to flash back to V1.01 or where I can get the firmware?

I feel like a right tool, as they say if it ain't broke, don't fix it

I am curious. How does anyone update firmware "unwittingly"? :?

it was unwittingly because I did not read this forum (or any forum) first and wrongly assumed that updating the firmware would be ok.

After reading about the firmware issues with Pioneer drivers post 2022, I decided to check out the BDR-S13U-X I purchased back in February 2023. Luckily, it looks like it escaped the newer 1.04 encrypted firmware and was produced with the older 1.03 that MKV flags as Libre Enabled. So just a DataPoint for those interested:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: A
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S13JX
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: XXXXXXXXXXXX
Firmware date: 2022-07-26
Bus encryption flags: 1B

Code: Select all

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS9201
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-213T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.03/ID72
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
Only thing that seems off is that it is not showing the Highest AACS version for the drive. Is that odd?

As I understand it, that AACS version you see is only the highest AACS version that drive has encountered and does not indicate any limitation the drive has regarding AACS levels.

I haven't actually put a disc in it as of yet. So that make senses. Thanks.

Hi, I'm Jocelyn, I have had this drive for some time, I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade it to read 4k UHD, please.
I purchased it in March 2021, but until now I hadn't had any need to read UHD, my "old" PC didn't have the potential (I now have a 5950x that I got at a good price).

Thank you.

I bought this but it doesn't read it from the features it would look like a 4KUHD.

https://amzn.eu/d/25K4Xhc

I would like to transform them in ISO to be able to read them with my nvidia shield by my HDD, because I no have at any another BR reader…

In fact, it doesn't read the disc, it doesn't even detect it. I no have anothers UHD disk… (In the package there are four discs). I'm doing something wrong?

Thx.
