How to restore factory firmware to BW-16D1HT drive?

Post by tbessie »

After installing LibreDrive firmware, I have a need to restore the factory firmware.

However, when I try, the installer says:

"DeviceIoControlError: Error Code 1117 / I can't issue Command through SPTI"

I've seen others post about this issue, but haven't seen any solution to it.
I've installed official firmware on this drive in the past, so this has only happened since installing LibreDrive firmware.

Anyone know how to get this working?

What firmware is currently on the drive?
The LibreDrive Asus 3.10 firmware - or did you want more specific info?
The drive itself reports "3.10".

So you can't use ASUS's official v3.10 firmware flasher as it will provide an error as the drive is already on v3.10. You should downgrade it to v3.02 first, then you can use the ASUS official updater to put the official v3.10 on it.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to work either.

I'm using the SDFtool Flasher (v1.3.5) and point it to firmware 3.03 (3.02 doesn't exist in the 'old' folder of the firmware downloads from this site), and it says:

Command produced error code 0xff23d101

Any suggestions, since MakeMKV's flasher won't let me flash to 3.03?
Am I missing some step, or is 3.02 available elsewhere?

3.02 is not a MK firmware and is available in my firmware pack in the SDFtool flasher thread (same place you downloaded the flasher from)

I don't know what that error code is. Never seen that one before. If the drive is on 3.10-MK there should be no issue downgrading to 3.02. Make sure there is no disc in the drive and the tray is closed.

The flasher tool is on a thread 68 pages long (and the site won't let me search for a string as short as "3.02"). The first post there doesn't contain any link to the 3.02 firmware, nor anything on that page that I can find. Here is that thread:

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634

There IS a reference to "ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer_(Modified) (24.08.2019).zip". I downloaded that and ran it, and I get exactly the same error I started this thread with (it says it's going to flash it to 3.02, but then says ""DeviceIoControlError: Error Code 1117 / I can't issue Command through SPTI"

Any suggestions? Am I still not finding the 3.02 firmware you're referring to? If you know where it is, can you point me to it? I've scoured this site, and still can't find anything but the above "ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer_(Modified) (24.08.2019).zip".

I found a YouTube video where the guy talks about your site and HE has a link to a 3.02 firmware (tho' whether it's legit or not, I can't say).

I tried using the ASUS flash tool from this site, and tried installing the firmware from the YouTube video (which says it's 3.02) and I get: "Command produced error code 0xff23d101".

Is it the thread I posted? i.e. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634 ??

If so, I think I tried every possible option and got an error every time. But I'll check once again and try again tomorrow, and report back here with the specifics (every link, etc), so maybe you can verify I'm doing what you THINK I should be doing. :-)

(for reference, I'm a software developer (40 years) and build my own computer systems (for 20 years), etc. so I'm not a tech neophyte, but generally know what I'm doing; which is why I think I have tried everything possible; but, as mentioned, I'll report back).

The SDFtool Flasher thread.

Near as I can tell, however, Marty's All You Need Firmware Pack only has 3.10 for the ASUS BW-16D1HT.

It looks like the first post of this thread: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18933 contains a link to the "modified ASUS FW Flasher + Downgrade Enabled Firmware + the latest MK firmware pack (20/07/2020)" which looks like it does have a ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.02 firmware in it.

Yeah, correct. I forgot that I didn't put 3.02 in my all you need pack as it was seldom used after 3.10-MK was released. It is in the older firmware pack from the ASUS flasher thread.

Sorry about that..

So yeah - the ASUS-only zip file that defaults to 3.02 to install gets an error when I try to install that firmware.

And the ZIP file that contains 3.02 (which is the same one pointed at by that YouTube video I mentioned), when I try to install it (using the old firmware tool or the new firmware tool), likewise gets an error.

So any time I try to install any firmware, now, I get that error.

Anyone have any idea why?

Can you flash it to LG WH16NS60 1.02-MK?
