LG WH14NS40 Success

I just thought I would share some information in case it helps others or maybe admins here are collecting the info. I read a lot on here before purchasing anything and flashing my drive. I bought the LG WH14NS40 from Amazon as well as the Vantec NexStar DX USB enclosure. The drive was manufactured in Jan 2024 and it had SVC NS50 on the label. It was shipped with 1.05 firmware. I used Martys flash tool to flash the firmware to 1.02 and everything seems to be working perfectly. I read some stuff about needing NS50+ on here but I kept reading conflicting stories or old threads so I decided to just go for it. My drive now reads UHD's and can finish a standard BluRay conversion in MakeMKV in around 18 minutes (It was 60 minutes before I flashed the drive). Hope this info helps someone and thanks to all here who made it possible.

So to clarify does NS50+ have "NS50+" on the label? Or does it mean anything above NS50? Because the label definitely says NS50 and not NS50+

I am looking to purchase this drive and enclosure as well. If I am mostly doing DVD rips/some Blu-ray, maybe the occasional ultra-hd disc, would this LG drive suffice? I would like to try this combination first, before going for a flashed Pioneer drive. Please help let me know if this is a waste of money, and if I should just do the flashed pioneer first off. Thank you for your time - new to this forum.

it will work but be prepared to have to exchange more discs because your drive does not like them and have the drive die sooner than a pioneer would.
