Is there a recommended place in the file system to install MKV ?

After installing how easy / complicated is it to update to a newer version or does it require a new install every time ?

Updates will ask you if you want to remove the existing installation (you should, normally). Then they'll either install where the old one was, or a new location if you don't do the uninstall.

You should make sure you set up a MakeMKV data directory; this is where files for your particular machine are stored, such as profiles or data files. This is done in Preferences->General. It needs to be writable by the user you're running MakeMKV under.
