No audio from DVD rip

Post by Blondie »

Purchased Kurios Cirque du soleil at the show this week and wished to make a backup.
Running v1.14.5 on Mac 10.11.6 (el capitan).

Have gone back to 2015 on forums and can find no similar problem. Help pls.

What are you using to play the MKV?

As a DVD, it should have AC3 as one of the audio tracks, for compatibility.

I used VLC but I checked the media info and there definitely was no audio track.

However I'm sorted now, thanks. When I went through the online help, I found a screen shot of the Windows beta. It displayed that titles can be expanded to drill down to select vid, audio & subs - something I'd never noticed before! Feel like such a dope. I'd always used the auto settings without issue.

So I've run it again and got the complete file. Thanks to you and the developers.

One thing it might be - what language did it have for the audio?

If you have set a preferred language in Preferences->Language, MakeMKV will not automatically select tracks for any other language.

I've never fiddled with the default settings, hence they are:
Interface language: Auto
Preferred language: English

{Aside: The Kurios DVD had English and French audio settings, so in theory, it should have selected the audio. The DVD is not a run-of-the-mill so I cannot fault the program. For instance, it has a subtitle option yet when we selected it on the player, it returned an error saying "not permitted". Out of curiosity, I extracted it to take a look, and it was just garbage characters that ran for about 20 minutes. So I've left it out from the encode.}

Good to know that extra info you've provided though; thank you.
