I really want to take advantage of the Atmos soundtrack of Zootopia, but it seems to only be available on the 4K disc. Would it be possible to extract the Atmos soundtrack from the 4k disc and add it to the regular 1080p MKV? I don't have a 4k projector yet, and didn't want to deal with the HDR conversion. Though would that be easier than trying to transplant the audio? Either way I'll need to pick up a UHD drive.
Yes, it is possible. You would use MKVToolNix and strip out the Atmos Track and then splice it into the mkv file you want it to go to. Hopefully the track lengths are the same so you wont get audio de-sync issues.
