Plex, how I do it.

Post by JasonHC73 »

Step one
go to imdb.com and find your movie.

Step two
Highlight the title and the date. - The Movie (2014)

Step three
Copy what you highlighted, CTRL+C

Step four
Go to your movie folders

Step five
Make a new folder.
In windows it's CTRL+SHIFT+N, then CTRL+V
(You just made a new folder and named it the movie)

Step six
Open MakeMKV, (in advanced, I have mine set to 600 seconds, I only want the movie)

Step seven
Put in the disk, load the disk

Step Eight
Output Folder showing.
At the end of the path where the base folder is showing, press the "/" key, then CTRL+V
The rip is going to the new folder you just created.

Step nine
Select the file to rip.
(Not the disc, the Title on the left panel)

Step ten
Properties panel on the right
Select the field and switch to File Name

Step eleven
change the name of the saved file, press CTRL+V on last time.

Step twelve
Press Make MKV

This is the fewest, fastest way to rip and have Plex read your movie. This format lets Plex work and brings in all the other goodies that make Plex so neat.

If you know a simpler way, by all means, share.

Pretty much exactly how I do it. And it works every single time.

Skip steps 4 & 5:
As mentioned in step 8, MakeMKV GUI has a field for Output Folder. If your ...Media/Movies directory is already loaded by default, you can append this address with your new folder name. When you start processing, MakeMKV will prompt to confirm that you want to create the folder (if it does not exist.)

Plex needs a (year) to determine the proper title match. These are some other configurations in my collection that also work:
...Media/Movies/Title (year)/Title.mkv
...Media/Movies/Title (year).mkv

I omit the (year) from the title fields as I don't want it written into the metadata of the file.
