Speed Control question?

So basically I've just purchased an LG BH16NS55 with WH16NS60 FW v1.02mk drive and have been thoroughly impressed. The only problem I have is that my dvds rip slower than my blu-rays which obviously isn't what I want. I've read about the speed control feature and was wondering firstly if I could get dvds to rip faster by this and secondly if using the speed control function affects the blu-ray/uhd in anyway?
