Multiple Titles - which is the correct title ID to use?

Post by platypusman »

I've read through other posts on this topic but can't seem to find an answer...

Following an article ( https://mysolutions.tech/2017/11/right- ... e_on_macOS ) I can use VLC to identify the correct title number, when there are multiple duplicates.

The problem is, in Make MKV, that title number is not listed.

For example VLC menu plays title 70. In Make MKV, the titles are 57, 58, 59, 61, 63, and 65. None of the titles listed has a duration that matches the correct title in VLC. Also they have one less chapter.

Is there another way to identify which title is the right one?

If you want title numbers to match VLC in MakeMKV, you have to set the minimum title length to zero seconds. Otherwise, the shorter titles aren't counted... but VLC counts them.

Thanks. I changed that setting to zero seconds, but it didn't seem to work (or even make any difference in the outcome of the scan).

Here is what I'm seeing in Make MKV:

VLC and MakeMKV uses different technics to "count" the titles. For me it's only a number and not comparable.
You should check the identified titles in MakeMKV which "Segment-Map" (in your picture 6-22) is included, also which Audio and Subtitle tracks are included. Best is to rip all 6 titles and compare the contens later with VLC. I do this always if ripping DVDs or Blu-rays with seasons or multiple content.
Good Luck :)

Isn't it possible to open a specific segment like its possible with BDs? I have two different segment maps and a try to find a difference by viewing both mkvs through VLC, but I do not find it.
Title information
Source title ID: 01
Angle: 1
Duration: 1:55:18
Chapters count: 14
Size: 5.7 GB
Segment count: 4
Segment map: 5,6,8-23,24
File name: title_00.mkv
Title information
Source title ID: 01
Angle: 2
Duration: 1:55:18
Chapters count: 14
Size: 5.7 GB
Segment count: 4
Segment map: 5,7,8-23,25
File name: title_01.mkv
So how can I open the segments "6" and "7" to compare only those?

EDIT: If I manually open the DVD it returns this:
Disc Information
Label : 8BELOW_D4#23C6
Titles count : 21

Title information
1: 1/1 - 15 chapter(s) 1:55:32 26 cell(s)
2: 1/2 - 1 chapter(s) 0:00:01 1 cell(s)
3: 2/1 - 2 chapter(s) 0:00:11 2 cell(s)
4: 2/2 - 2 chapter(s) 0:00:11 2 cell(s)
5: 2/3 - 2 chapter(s) 0:00:11 2 cell(s)
6: 2/4 - 2 chapter(s) 0:00:11 2 cell(s)
7: 2/5 - 2 chapter(s) 0:00:11 2 cell(s)
8: 2/6 - 2 chapter(s) 0:00:06 2 cell(s)
9: 2/7 - 4 chapter(s) 0:00:16 4 cell(s)
10: 2/8 - 3 chapter(s) 0:00:11 3 cell(s)
11: 3/1 - 9 chapter(s) 0:09:54 15 cell(s)
12: 3/2 - 8 chapter(s) 0:09:49 14 cell(s)
13: 3/3 - 8 chapter(s) 0:09:49 14 cell(s)
14: 4/1 - 2 chapter(s) 0:10:44 2 cell(s)
15: 5/1 - 2 chapter(s) 0:01:30 2 cell(s)
16: 5/2 - 2 chapter(s) 0:04:39 2 cell(s)
17: 5/3 - 2 chapter(s) 0:01:19 2 cell(s)
18: 5/4 - 2 chapter(s) 0:01:17 2 cell(s)
19: 5/5 - 2 chapter(s) 0:00:51 2 cell(s)
20: 5/6 - 6 chapter(s) 0:09:32 6 cell(s)
21: 1/3 - 1 chapter(s) 0:00:01 2 cell(s)
Does it mean that "6" is "2/4" and "7" is "2/5" or is this order different to the numbers listed in the segment map?

EDIT2: Hmm.. no. If I manually select "6" and "7" it returns a copy disclaimer text and an empty file.

No, the segment maps on DVDs are inside of VOB streams and not Blu-ray single stream xxxx.m2ts elements. On DVD this is called "Seamless Branching", the player jumps to the next stream part in the VOB.

The difference is only segment 6 and 7 and I think this is something with the title information in different languages.
Good Luck :)

@Grauhaar

And how do I extract those VOB sub-parts? It's not the title. I checked that.

Sorry, no idea if there are any tools available to perfrom this task. Never done, this is all imbedded inside the VOB files.
Good Luck :)

I found the solution to export segment parts and posted it here:
