Make sure the disk is clean. Double-sided disks can be particularly troublesome in many players.

Re: Wonder Woman Season 2 - some DVD discs failed to open
update.
these are brand new discs from a new box, which is why I didn't think about cleaning, but while I was cleaning, I do see micro scratches on the problem sides, so I now suspect they were damaged during production or packaging.
so, I am currious, does this mean the sony bluray player somehow ignores this damage?
the drive in my computer is an HL-DT-ST bluray reader/writer
Thank you

Re: Wonder Woman Season 2 - some DVD discs failed to open
Consumer DVD players (and playback software) are generally programmed to ignore minor errors. If a sector fails the checksum, it will attempt to decode it anyway. MakeMKV won't do that - it's trying to get a correct rip, rather than an approximation, because later processing might fail because of the bad data.
