Plex and MKV?

Post by RobAinscough »

I've successfully created Doctor Who MKV and it plays back smoothly in VLC. However, when I play it back thru my Plex Server it regularly skips a few seconds (3-4 seconds). At first I thought it was MKV issue, but it's not (VLC smooth). I checked my Plex Server dashboard and no load issues and network connectivity is good. I've also had no issues with playback of 4K UHD content I placed on my Plex server.

Adding a TV series to Plex was not as easy as Movies, but managed to get it sorted with one exception Extras ... no idea how to add those, any recommendations? I've been using this guide: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming ... how-files/

Code: Select all

Media/
	TV Shows/
		Doctor Who/
			Season 23/
				Doctor Who (1986) - s23e1 - The Mysterious Planet.mkv
				Doctor Who (1986) - s23e2 - The Mysterious Planet.mkv
		 	Other/
		 		Behind the Sofa.mkv
"Other" doesn't work so I'm still trying to figure that one out ... as you can see there is a "Extras" but I have no idea where that came from, not from my Plex server?

Any suggestions as to why plex is skipping seconds on playback?

Any suggestions as to how I can get my "Other" in as "Extras" in Plex?

Cheers, Rob.

EDIT: Is there a Plex support forum? I couldn't find anything in my google search?

I was able to cure the "time skipping" problem with this setting:

However, playback will run for about 2 mins then I get the spinning wheel and playback stops. If I hit the forward 30 sed or backward 10 sec play icons, playback resumes. Checking my Unraid dashboard (Plex server) and load is very low 9% . My Unraid/Plex server is reasonably good performance components:

Intel i7-12700K
64GB DDR5
ASUS MB B760 (EFI Dec 2023)

Disk Drives all good, no drive or network errors reported (no lost packets).

Cheers, Rob.

Thank you for the link.

I was able to solve the issue which seems to be on the Plex player/web app (client side) which various by client Chrome/Windows will behave differently than Plex on LG app.

Also discovered that Windows web app doesn't support extras (yet) but Plex for LG does with some limitations:
