If you want to verify yourself, backup the disk and watch those segments in order.
I have a netflix disc, and AnyDVD 7.4.4.0 says that 461.mpls is the correct one, so assuming you have the same version of the disc, it looks like your method agrees with AnyDVD. Of course, the AnyDVD method only took about 30sec (and I just sat there while AnyDVD scanned the disc), so it meets my standard of laziness!

Here is the MakeMKV Title Information for my netflix disc:

Code: Select all

Title information
Name: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (English)
Source file name: 00461.mpls

I have the combo Blue-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy from Wal-Mart. UPC - 0 31398 18152 1

From mapping the segments out, it looks like this:

Title information
Name: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Source file name: 00795.mpls
Duration: 2:26:14
Chapters count: 16
Size: 29.0 GB
Segment count: 15

You do not need to do anything. If MakeMKV can decipher it, then it will just display a note next to the title / MPLS that it thinks is correct. For the disc I have, MakeMKV did not even venture a guess as to the correct one, but AnyDVD had no problem identifying 461.

You can buy a lifetime license for AnyDVD if you don't want to pay every year or two. It is expensive, but it is worth it for me. I've had it for years now (I also paid for a MakeMKV license, since AnyDVD is not as good with MKVs). If you include the beta versions that they post on their forum, AnyDVD is updated probably around once a week. Much more frequently than MakeMKV. So I am not surprised that AnyDVD is better at identifying the correct playlist on new discs.

Have the same one from Amazon. AnyDVD reported 778 instead of 795.

MakeMKV shows the 778.mpls segment map as:
511, 512, 515, 507, 504, 513, 514, 503, 502, 505, 506, 510, 508, 509, 501

At least the segment map numbers are the same order. :-)

I also purchased the U.S. retail version of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" in a Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD UltraViolet two-disc set (1 BD, 1 DVD) from Amazon.com.

I can confirm "00778.mpls" is the correct playlist. I first backed up the Blu-ray disc to my hard drive and viewed each of that playlist's segments in order using VLC to verify.

Here's what you should see in MakeMKV v1.8.9 for that disc:

Title information
Name: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (English)
Source file name: 00778.mpls
Duration: 2:26:14
Chapters count: 16
Size: 29.0 GB
Segment count: 15
Segment map: 511,512,515,507,504,513,514,503,502,505,506,510,508,509,501
File name: The_Hunger_Games_Catching_Fire_t130.mkv

I don't know why some are reporting 795 as the playlist. That doesn't match the segment map of playlist 778 on my disc. Go figure.

OK... so I too bought the Amazon copy (BD + DVD+ UV) and I have the following results:

Title information
Name: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Source file name: 00778.mpls
Duration: 2:26:14
Chapters count: 16
Size: 29.0 GB
Segment count: 15
Segment map: 511,507,512,515,504,502,513,503,514,505,506,510,508,509,501
File name: The_Hunger_Games_Catching_Fire_t123.mkv

Title information
Name: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Source file name: 00795.mpls
Duration: 2:26:14
Chapters count: 16
Size: 29.0 GB
Segment count: 15
Segment map: 511,512,515,507,504,513,514,503,502,505,506,510,508,509,501
File name: The_Hunger_Games_Catching_Fire_t127.mkv

Title information
Name: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Source file name: 00811.mpls
Duration: 2:26:14
Chapters count: 16
Size: 29.0 GB
Segment count: 15
Segment map: 511,512,515,507,504,514,502,503,513,505,506,510,508,509,501
File name: The_Hunger_Games_Catching_Fire_t130.mkv

Judging from what donmelton lists as the proper segment map - it looks like MY copy has a different output file name, and uses the source file name 00795.mpls. The 00778 has the wrong segment maps compared to his, and the output file name of donmelton's is t130, which for my disc has a source file name of 00811.mpls.

Did they really make a ton of different breeds of this disc? It rather ticks me off that I pay money for my movies - retail (Amazon is retail right? :)) - and I cannot make an easy backup to play on my media PC. #facepalm

Anyway - I hope the info I provided here helps someone else... I am still ripping my movie, but if the segment maps are what counts - then hopefully I can report back with good news. ;)

EDIT: I also have the same UPC as Havok3114 up above (havok's is from walmart though) UPC - 0 31398 18152 1

Hopefully this will help someone out there:

I have a three-disc (Blu-ray+DVD+Digital Copy) "Collector's Edition" region A disc (UPC 77421211302) purchased from Best Buy Canada.

AnyDVD HD says that playlist 904 is good:

And MakeMKV shows the following for segment map, etc.:

Can confirm that 461 is the correct playlist for the Redbox/Netflix Blu-ray.

I PM'd with TempGuy1...see earlier posts. His method will work on a Mac or Windows machine. TempGuy1 is the man. He figured out a great work around. It is flawless...but requires some personal work. If you don't want to put a few minutes work into this...keep watching the forums for people that have figured it out and posted their results. If you want to do it yourself...here's the answer. It really doesn't take that long to get through 15-20 chapters and 'puzzle' them together.

As a Mac user without access to AnyDVD...this is a life saver. For Windows users that don't want to pay for AnyDVD, this will save you money.

I outlined the process for a Mac.
1. Find BD Runtime
  • a. Open BD in a 'regular' BD TV player (or however you want to get the exact runtime for YOUR disc). Disc versions are different.
    b. Check EXACT runtime once main title starts
2. Backup BD
  • a. Open BD with MakeMKV
    b. Select File>Backup
    • i. Select 'Decrypt video files' option
    c. Click 'OK'
3. Find correct titles
  • a. Click on disc image in MakeMKV or select File>Open Disc
    b. Scan list for titles with matching run times
4. Find correct segments...remember that not all discs will have the same map. Many discs won't even have the same segment numbers. Find your own.
  • a. On each 'correct' title, look under "info: Title Information" for the 'Segment map.'
    b. Write down the segments for each 'correct' title, ignoring duplicates
5. Map the segments...remember that not all discs will have the same map. Many discs won't even have the same segment numbers. Find your own.
  • a. Go to the backup of the disc
    b. Right click on the BDMV file
    • i. Select 'Show Package Contents'
    c. Select the 'Stream' folder
    d. Open the segments determined under 'Find correct segments' (#4) above
    e. Watch the first few seconds (I used VLC on my Mac, TempGuy1 uses Windows Media Player on a Win 7 machine)...then scrub to last few seconds. Some segments with different segment numbers might appear identical...watch these segments all the way through to check carefully for any discrepancies.
    f. Put the segments in order logically
    e. Choose the title (from your predetermined list of titles with the correct runtime) that exactly matches the segment order you just determined.
6. Select your title...and have MakeMKV do its magic

Or a simpler way might be to complete the outline above through step 3, then for step 4 copy the exact order of each segment map to a text file with it's .mpls filename for each runtime matching title. Then go to the backup and start checking correct segment order for each title. Check the first segment, then the second, etc. As soon as you come to a segment that is out of order...exclude that title. And exclude any other titles with similar orders up to that point. When you have several segments you've determined are in the correct order...exclude other titles that don't have THAT starting order. It won't be long until the list has dwindled to the correct title.

Weird. That's the same UPC as on my disc from Amazon. So it does look like there are different versions out there.

So I looked this morning and with my US Target "exclusive" edition I am showing 778.mpls as the one with this segment map that seems to be correct per everyone else:
511, 512, 515, 507, 504, 513, 514, 503, 502, 505, 506, 510, 508, 509, 501

795.mpls for me has several of the segments swapped around.

Where does anydvd show the right title or segment maps, etc? When I look at the status page, it doesn't seem to list any of that information?

Example:
Summary for drive R: (AnyDVD HD 7.4.4.0, BDPHash.bin 14-02-26-B)
HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GGC-H20L 1.00 43092807157C490710
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Current profile: BD-ROM
Media is a Blu-ray disc.

Total size: 21211296 sectors (41428 MBytes)
Video Blu-ray label: MARVELS_THOR_THE_DARK_WORLD
Media is AACS protected!
AACS MKB version 36
Removed AACS copy protection!
Added speedmenu!

Thor does not have Java BD protection, so there is nothing for AnyDVD to show.
