Error flashing Asus BC-12D2HT drive

Post by AxelTerizaki »

Hello.

I recently started using MakeMKV and it's a great tool. I had some issues with some BRs though and decided to go with flashing/updating my drive's firmware.

I thought the process was a little confusing, with the info scattered through different posts... In any case, I used the flasher BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe with this firmware since this is the first one I found : ASUS-BC-12D2HT-3.01-WM00900-211711151926.bin

Flashing succeeded, and I got a prompt asking me to reboot to take it into account, which I did.

On reboot, I started up MakeMKV to confirm the drive was updated :

Informations lecteur
Nom du lecteur SE : E:
Fabricant : ASUS
Produit : BC-12D2HT
Révision : 3.01
Numéro de série : SIK9KF16H091
Date micrologiciel : 2117-11-15 19:26
Marqueurs d'encryptage bus : 1E
Version AACS la plus haute : 63

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 3.01
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Possible, not yet enabled

---

However even though I had a disc present, it owuld never appear under Windows or even in MakeMKV. The drive simply said "No disc".

Thinking I had made a mistake, I tried to downgrade my firmware to 3.0 using this : DE_ASUS_BC-12D2HT_3.00.bin but to no avail, the flasher said the update failed and the drive was in emergency/flash only. It still says upon reboot it's in 3.01 and still won't let me use it.

Does anyone have any idea on how to help me there? I probably did something wrong or followed the wrong post somewhere, and would very much appreciate some help if someone has a good idea to share :)

Thanks in advance.

If the drive now recognizes no disks then your drive was made in or before 2015 take out the drive and see the manufacturer date if it is 2015+ this should have worked if not you will need dosflash to recover the drive.

Thanks for your reply!

I remember installing that drive with my computer, which was definitely before 2015, so I suspect it's the root cause of my issues.

I've landed on some Dosflash tutorial yesterday when doing my research but do you have one to recommend? The one I saw involved a USB key and a WinPE image.

Also, just out of curiosity, and to make sure I'll get it right, which firmware should I use for that drive, since it was made before 2015? Should I flash it to 3.01 using dosflash or should I downgrad it to 3.00 ?

I've read somewhere that 3.02 for BW-16D1HT models would be working, is that true?

You need to read this:

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 7&start=15

It applies to you as well. There are dozens more posts across this forum discussing the exact same problem. Forum search function works.

Examples:

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 2HT#p72381

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/search.ph ... =BC-12D2HT

In short, you need to find a version of the original firmware for that drive. No current version or flashing method on Earth will save that drive WITHOUT an original firmware version pre-2015 now.

You may need to scour the forum search provided above or Google your way to success in order to find the correct bin since it appears you just immediately jumped into flashing and did not create a backup of your original firmware. Otherwise, you’ll now just have a nice heavy paperweight and better off buying a new drive.

Should've done some more reading/research or asked the forum prior to flashing.

I think you are going to be looking for 1.xx firmware you can a also flash older LG firmware on I have seen on here. But I think there is only 1 dos flash video and it's mine at least for flashing Blu-ray drives. Was this the video you saw?: https://youtu.be/eXgybNfHhcg

I think your best bet is to go to Asus's site find your old original firmware for your model before 2015 and use the firmware extractor from

There also maybe an mk firmware for that drive to try I'm not on my computer to check right now though but check here : https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 19&t=19113
And then follow my video guide and treat the firmware you get as your clean file

Thank you for taking the time to direct me to what I should do to fix this.

As I said, I found the forum a little confusing in what I should be doing, maybe I should have done more research, yes.

I will try to take a look at this tomorrow after a good night's sleep.
