First, reminder that UHD drives are discussed in this forum:

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=16

you just posted in the UHD discs forum.

Second, read the sticky guide located here:

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634

It provides recommended enclosures compatible with what you are asking to do. Read the stickies/guides across the forum. They will often provide answers to these common questions.

Oops, sorry about that. Is there a way to move it into UHD Drives?

Also, it seems I'll have to flash the drive. Is that possible from a mac? I downloaded one of the firmware packs to see whats inside, and it seems to only have a .exe file.

The admin has been notified and he may eventually move it.

There is apparently a non-public (work in progress?) advanced method that may allow you to flash in macOS. See the following discussion and contact "mike admin" if interested and comfortable with command line (heed his warning in that thread):

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 068#p82068

Otherwise, you'll need a Windows PC or at the very least a Windows VM within your macOS environment.

You can buy the drive on newegg from "cloner alliance". They flash the 3.0 firmware before shipping the drive
This is the way

for $30+ shipping more than me i bet they don't even test it like i do.i wouldn't recommend buying from them i know these drives have about a 25% fail rate right out of the factory my drives never leave if they are getting read errors. i test with at least 2 disks 1 dual layer and 1 triple layer sometimes more

I can confirm the Asus BW-16D1HT blu-ray drive works perfectly on Mac OSX. Best set up is as an external blu-ray drive. You can get the OWC optical drive ext enclosure or the Vantec NexStar ext enclosure, both offers USB 3.0

Didn't know anyone here sold them. Bought mine last year works perfect. I even flashed the modified 3.10 fw which fixed the drive sleep issue. I may be in the market for another drive soon, ill hit you up then

Ok, I picked up the Asus drive and the nexstar enclosure. Here is the information when I plug it into my mac:

I saw in the main thread that if it's 3.10 I need to sidegrade before flashing? What are the steps to do that? I have access to a cheap laptop with windows, if it'll be easier to do on there.

Thanks!

No side-grading needed. Just flash directly to 3.10-MK using the windows PC.
Cheers :D

So am I still doing the first half of this youtube video?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfpf6HoMMis

But instead of choosing a file from the download link in the video, I choose file "ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-WM01601-211901041014" from this link?:

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 19&t=19113

Do I have this right?

That video is a bit old now. I'm not sure if the LG flasher works with 3.10 firmware.

The easiest way is to download the modified ASUS flasher + firmware packs from https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=18933. There is a mediafire.com download link in the first post.

Run the ASUS flasher on your windows PC and select the ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-WM01601-211901041014 firmware.
Cheers :D
