SDF does NOT contained hashed keys. So the "manual update" is not a thing.

As long as your MakeMKV install is pulling the latest hashed keys when it scans the disc, then yes. If for whatever reason your MakeMKV install is NOT downloading the HK's then you have to solve that problem.

How do I actually know for sure that it is downloading the latest hashed keys? All I have in the log is this:
MakeMKV v1.15.1 darwin(x64-release) started
Optical drive "BD-ROM Optiarc BD ROM BC-5550H B881d" opened in OS access mode.
Optical drive "BD-RE ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.01d" opened in OS access mode.
Using direct disc access mode
Using LibreDrive mode (v05 id=E064BA3E3F81)
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Saved AACS dump file as /Users/.../Library/MakeMKV/MKB20_v61_The_Hitman's_Bodyguard_27BD.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc

My apologies. I was getting confused with sdf and private_data.tar.

I wonder if something is blocking you getting updates? Are you using google's or duckduckgo's DNS? If not, try changing your DNS to either of those and see if that fixes the problem.

For me, the last hashed keys download was about 3 days ago.
Cheers :D

I tried Google DNS just now (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) but to no avail. Also used my 4G hotspot which didn't work either.

How do you know that it was updated 3 days ago? Do you go by the _private_data.tar file modification date? Looks like that was updated on 2 May for me.

Should there be a line in the log telling you about downloading keys? As I don't even get an error code?

Yes there should be an entry in the log when you scan a disc about downloading the hashed keys. Make sure the option to do so is checked in the settings.

I installed MakeMKV on another PC and got it to download the latest hashed keys. Still says 'unknown volume key' when trying to decrypt. So it appears it simply isn't available for this disc?

For now. It can take a few weeks sometimes. Just keep trying periodically.

Looks like this disc is going to stay encrypted forever.

Off to pirate bay..
