My drive tells me this is possible. The main reason I wish to do this is to make the drive region-free. I'm sure I'll think of other reasons later. Thanks.

MakeMKV can already work around DVD regions for most drives, without LibreDrive. LD just makes it easier.

Thanks for your response. I had to change the DVD region on my external drive recently for use with another app, and I would like to know if I can LD this external LG burner, as I'd like it to region-free going forward.

Well, this works for the BP50NB40 so should also work for your WP50NB40. Requirements are:
  • Windows 10 PC (a possible alternative is to download and boot into the Win10PE.iso). If you use the iso, you will need to place the WP50NB40 1.01-MK firmware on a USB thumb drive, so you can access it.
  • The Modified ASUS flasher
  • Firmware WP50NB40 1.01-MK
Download the modified ASUS flasher + firmwares from the first post of thread: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=18933

Download the Win10PE.iso from the first post of thread: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634 under "NS40 Recovery Image".

Let us know how you go..

Cheers

Had you looked in the MakeMKV for Mac OS X sub-forum...
